Evening primrose oil is safe for dogs, even with sensitive skin, making it a gentle option for treating a variety of skin complaints to including itching, scratching and nibbling.By soothing irritated skin, evening primrose oil can significantly reduce itching, making your dog more comfortable. Allergies are a common cause of hair loss in dogs. The soothing properties of evening primrose oil help to alleviate the symptoms of allergies, such as itching and inflammation, which in turn can prevent further hair loss.
5. Reduces hair loss
Hair loss in dogs, also known as alopecia, can be caused by a variety of factors, including allergies, hormonal imbalances, parasites, infections, or underlying health conditions. This can lead to patchy bald spots, thinning fur, and even irritation or inflammation of the skin. When a dog experiences hair loss, it can be uncomfortable and may indicate that the skin is not healthy.
Regular use of evening primrose oil can improve the texture and sheen of a dog’s coat, making it appear fuller and more vibrant. This is particularly beneficial for dogs that have experienced significant hair loss, as it can enhance the appearance of the new hair growth.
6. Fights off acne
Evening primrose oil is well-known for its antioxidant properties, which contribute significantly to its effectiveness in promoting skin and coat health in dogs. Antioxidants are compounds that neutralise free radicals—unstable molecules that can damage cells, proteins, and DNA. This oxidative stress can lead to various health issues, including skin problems and premature ageing.
Skin conditions often lead to secondary bacterial or fungal infections due to the compromised skin barrier. The antioxidant properties of evening primrose oil help strengthen the skin’s defences, reducing the risk of such infections and promoting faster recovery if they occur.
How to Shampoo your dog with a skin complaint.
When washing a dog with a skin complaint using Glavaderm, it's crucial to follow a gentle and thorough approach.
Begin by wetting the dog’s coat with lukewarm water, ensuring the water is not too hot or cold, as this can irritate the skin.
Apply Glavaderm shampoo carefully, starting from the neck and working your way down the body, avoiding the eyes and ears. Massage the shampoo into the skin, focusing on affected areas, but be gentle to avoid causing discomfort.
Allow the shampoo to sit for a few minutes, as directed, to allow the active ingredients to work on the skin. Rinse thoroughly to remove all traces of shampoo, as residue can exacerbate skin issues.
After rinsing, gently pat the dog dry with a towel, avoiding vigorous rubbing, which could further irritate the skin.
Ensure the dog is kept warm and dry after the bath to prevent any additional skin irritation, and to reap all the benefits Glavaderm has to offer!
